A trip down memory lane.
Years of experience managing animal hospitals gave Michael Raphael a front-row seat to a growing challenge in veterinary medicine. Veterinarians were struggling with burnout, overwhelming hours, and mounting pressures that were draining their passion for the work. At the same time, hospitals were under intense strain juggling operational demands, shifting client expectations, and a growing need for reliable, high-quality clinical coverage.
As many vets considered leaving the profession due to stress and student debt, hospitals were left scrambling to maintain coverage and care for the patients counting on them. More and more pets were at risk of going unseen.
Michael believed the solution had to do more than just fill shifts; it needed to support veterinarians and help clinics deliver the care their patients deserved. That meant building a new kind of partner: one that could provide dependable, highly skilled, doctor-led staffing built around a shared commitment to ensure no pet goes untreated.
In 2017, he teamed up with Andrew Heller, DVM, to create IndeVets. From the start, the company was founded on the idea that when veterinarians are supported, hospitals thrive and patients get the care they need. The first hires were veterinarians, ensuring IndeVets was shaped by clinical insight and grounded in the day-to-day realities of hospital life.
