Why IndeVets?

IndeVets is built to return balance, fulfillment, and joy to veterinary medicine.

Our Mission

Our team is united by a mission to make veterinary medicine better.

We’ve been through the long rotations, the office drama, and the last-minute schedule changes. It drove the joy out of our jobs and, more importantly, out of our lives. So we took it upon ourselves to make a change.

What Makes Us Different?

We’re building a community of like-minded veterinarians who see schedule and placement flexibility as a formula for becoming a better doctor, and a happier human being.

We partner with forward-thinking practices that understand the value an engaged, knowledgeable doctor can bring to their practice every day. Our special sauce is getting these two groups to connect, and raise the bar for veterinary medicine. And now it’s our business to share the IndeVets way with those who want a happier and healthier future.

Michael Raphael

Chief Executive Officer

The facts.

In my experience as a journalist and in business, I’ve seen the damage unhealthy workplaces can cause. I wanted to build a company that honored people’s passions — and their personal lives. For veterinarians these conflicts show up as long hours in the hospital, higher risk for suicide and dissatisfaction with careers often pursued since childhood.

Our mission is to give veterinarians a new way to experience their chosen profession. Choice of when and how and where to work — research shows this improves health and quality of life. This focus on hiring happy, balanced people, brings a positive energy to our partner hospitals, along with great clinical skills.

I’m a life-long Philadelphian, leaving only for college for an undergraduate degree at Northwestern. I spent my early career as a journalist, working for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Newark Star-Ledger and the Associated Press. Mid-career I went back to business school. Since graduating from the Fox School of Business at Temple University, I’ve investing in and operated companies in technology, media, healthcare and — most enjoyably — veterinary medicine.

I founded IndeVets in 2017.

My wife, Jenny, and I live near Center City with our two sons, Maxon and Ezra, and our two cats, Obi and Kit. In addition to attending kids’ baseball games, tennis matches, and musical performances, I like to workout in HIIT programs, read a lot, and buy unnecessary technology products.

The facts.

I’m the first-ever IndeVet, and I’ve been with the company since its founding in 2017. I was born in England, raised in Northern California, attended university in the Midwest, and moved to New York City where I worked on Wall Street and then founded a construction company. In 2010, I made a major life change and moved to St. Kitts to attend Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. I completed my clinical studies at The University of Pennsylvania and then a rotating internship at The Center for Animal Referral and Emergency Services (CARES) before entering private practice in Philadelphia.

My role at IndeVets is to hire great veterinarians to join us on our mission to improve veterinary medicine.

I now live with my family in a suburb of Philadelphia.

Marisa Brunetti, VMD

Chief Medical Officer

The facts.

I’m a native Pennsylvanian, and after graduating from Syracuse University I moved back to Philadelphia for veterinary school at Penn. In 2010 I went into private small animal practice, and spent a year as a regional medical director for a veterinary company in Texas before moving back to PA in 2018, when I joined IndeVets.

In my role, I support my doctors’ practice of medicine, nurturing client relations, and doing my part to improve the quality of life of veterinarians everywhere.

When I’m not working, I especially love to travel. I have two big goals: visit all 50 states and all Major League Baseball parks. I also enjoy spending a lot of time with my family, friends, two cats—Teddy and Phoenix—and one dog, Lois Lane, a mutt from Houston.

Gillian Florentine

Head of HR

The facts.

I was born and raised in a small PA town where the football fan base was split between the Steelers, the Bills, and the Browns. Growing up, you could find me on the soccer field or in a hockey rink (watching hockey because females didn’t play then). After graduating from Grove City College, I stumbled my way into human resources after performing some rewarding work at the Make-A-Wish Foundation. I’ve been in HR ever since. I’ve done everything from sourcing talent to celebrating retirements and everything in between. Before becoming an IndeVet, I owned my own human resources consulting firm.

My role at IndeVets is to manage all aspects of human resources at the company.

I love spending time with my family. There are three of us, yet somehow I’m the only one that ends up feeding and walking our dog, Niko. If you don’t find me with family or with the dog, you’ll find me in the flower garden or on the golf course.
